Melbourne Prize for Literature 2021

For a Victorian published author whose body of published work has made an outstanding contribution to Australian literature and to cultural and intellectual life.

The author’s work can include all genres, for example, fiction, non-fiction, essays, plays, screenplays and poetry.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TO ENTER THIS PRIZE

• Authors can apply for this Prize in their own right or be nominated by publishers, agents or private individuals.
• Entrants MUST be commercially published authors, an Australian citizen or permanent resident and a resident of the State of Victoria.
• Copies of published work are NOT required for this category.
• $1,000 (incl. GST) will be given to runner up finalists (supported by Fed Square).
• This Prize will be given to a single author. No group entries are permitted.
• A maximum of four (4) finalists will be announced on 15 September 2021 at melbourneprize.org
• A virtual exhibition of finalists will be available from November 8 on this website.
• The recipient of this Prize will be announced to the media and on this website on 10 November 2021.

ENTRY MATERIAL REQUIRED

• A resume including a summary of the author’s published work.
• A proposal of how the Prize funds will be used to benefit the career of the author.
• Where an entry is by nomination, a commendation of the entrant must be provided by the nominator.

The Writers Prize 2021

Supported by its sole patron, the Robert Salzer Foundation.

The Writers Prize will be awarded to the winning author for an essay (10,000 maximum words) of outstanding originality, literary merit and creative freshness.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TO ENTER THIS PRIZE

• Entrants to The Writers Prize 2021 are invited to submit an essay of up to 10,000 words.
• The subject for the essay is open.
• Submitted essay MUST NOT have been published or made publicly available.
• Please refer to the PDF attachment function in the Entry Form to submit the essay.
• Entrants MUST be commercially published authors, an Australian citizen or permanent resident and a resident of the State of Victoria.
• The submitted essay may be entered via nomination by publishers, agents or private individuals.
• A maximum of four (4) finalists will be announced on September 15 at melbourneprize.org
• $1,000 (including GST) will be given to runner up finalists (supported by Fed Square).
• The winning essay will be selected by the judges and announced to the media and on the Prize website on November 10.
• A virtual exhibition of finalists will be available from November 8 on this website.
